IE7 - experiencing slow menus and horizontal scroll bar

Hello,
I'm trying to update to the latest version of the menu. My company has a corporate license and we use the menu on a number of our websites in a "network bar" style. For example, all of our related sites have the same drop down menu displayed across the top.
I've implemented the menu on one of our sites so far, and I'm experiencing two things:
1. IE7 seems to display a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the browser while mousing over the menu. From nav item to nav item, the page will flicker a bit as the browser seems to try to render the menu.
2. Slowness. The newest version seems to be a bit slower than the old, old version we're currently using everywhere else.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

The URL where you may view this is here:
http://discuss.pittsburghlive.com, and you'll be looking at the menu used at the very top of the page (with newspapers, magazines, etc.).
The Firebug plugin for Firefox shows no JS errors...at least that I've seen.
