script size creeping up continually....

I just installed the latest version and found that the size of the files keeps getting bigger and bigger. I try to keep my menu_data.js file as small as I can to help compensate for the huge other 3 files used to run the menu. I noticed the mmenudom.js is now 32K. The mmenuns4.js is 24K and the milonic_src.js is 8K. Each time I get a new version it seems the size just keeps growing. Doesn't this slow down the loading of my web pages? When I check my pages at http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ they always warn me my scripts are too big already! They recommend the scripts be under 8K.
Okay here is my question. Is there any way I can get my scripts for my milonic menu down under 8K? Does the huge size of the other 3 files get read into cache? If so it seems like I am paying quite a price in speed to download my web pages to my customers. I have been using the Milonic menu for almost two years and love it, but I am concerned the newer versions are slowing down my web pages. Am I the only one concerned about this?

Hi,

There's no way to get it down to under 8k, after all it's a complete menu program which has different functions in it.

The size 'creeps' up because new things are requested and added to the menu which would then increase the size.

I recommend you keep up to date, however you could download the new files but if you didn't need any of the new options you could continue to use your older ones. However, remember that there may be issues with newer browsers as they come out and as the menu is developed to work with them, if you do that. Also remember that if you have problems, unless you have the newest version we cannot give you any help here on the forum since we work with the newest versions.

Also, if you don't need to have your site set up for Netscape 4 you can eliminate that mmenuns4.js file. It is specifically to make the menu work in Netscape 4 browsers. You would then call the mmenudom.js file just like you do the milonic_src, and menu_data, no if else statement call.

Your pages shouldn't load any slower, unless you are using different menus on each page and loading different files from different folders on each page. The base menu files load once, they are then in the cache. Same with the menu_data.js file unless you have different ones coming from different folders on different pages.

Thanks Ruth!

I appreciate your time in answering my question. I do keep up to date
on new versions just because I love my milonic menu system. I guess
I will quit worrying about the warnings to keep my scripts under 8K.
My scripts generally run about 10K when I check the pages out to see
what is downloaded.
I do keep in mind that once the menu is read it comes from the cache.
And no I don't use more than one menu, so I guess my concern was ill founded. Thanks again for answering my query!
