Using images with menubgimage

I am trying to use the Office 2003 example menu and the main menu part is working. The submenus, however, are giving me trouble.
If I include the "image='images/xpblank.gif';" in the submenu style, each sub menu item has a light blue background which covers the menubgimage. The onbgcolor doesn't show (it must be behind this blue stuff also). The image width appears to be correct because the text immediately follows the image and that looks right.
If I leave out the "image=..." item, I can see the menubgimage and the onbgcolor works properly. Of course, the text is all left-justified so it looks strange and I also would like to include some icons in my submenu - that's why I chose this style in the first place.
Can anyone give me any insights into this?
Thank you.

Hi,
I don't know why you are having a problem. Can you put up a test page please? If you go to the sample and mouseover the Milonic main item you'll see that the submenu has icons in it for different items and the XPMenuStyle, which is the submenu style, includes image="xpblank.gif"
So without a page where we can see and take a look at your images we really don't have a way to answer the question.

Thank you for your reply. Since this is a company website, it's difficult to post pages. However, I accidentally solved my problem.
It turns out that the problem was caused by a generic TR style I had in the stylesheet I'm using for this project. I removed it for a different reason and suddenly the menus had the appropriate appearance. I assume this means that the menus are being rendered as little tables. In the future, I'll make sure that I use a custom class style for table rows rather than a generic one if I need to.
