Space at begin and end of menu?!?

I'm playing with this menu to see if it's something that we'd like on our site. I'm having problems figuring out this problem though:

There is a space at the beginning and end of the menu. I want the items to start right at the beginning of the menu border and go right to the end. It seems to be margin space or something. Everything that I could find relating to padding is set to 0. The menu is set in a table, and centered, if that helps.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone can find a solution as to why there is that space on the menu bar before the first item starts...

got it figured out. Had to change the width from 100% to the actual number of pixels...
