Q.1
After downloading the new DHTML version, is my menu_data.js the only file I replace to/in the new version?
Q.2
After unzipping the new version do I copy all the new files to my former location and replace the new menu_data.js file with my current working menu_data.js that I have configured

Sorry Folks. After doing some reading in the beginners guide I think It explained about what files to replace.

Just to make sure, Vic, the _data file is almost always the only file you do not copy to your server. If you do, all your hard configuration work is gone. Always copy all 3 of the menu code files, however. Version numbers for those files must be exactly the same.

After downloading the latest version 5.723 I replaced my old files with the 3 new ones and it caused the menu on most of the pages either to not display an/or the first menu item is Milonic not my menu item about us. Even though I have a link on all my pages to Milonic.
When I reverted back to my older version 5.722 [April 20, 2005] of those files my menu works just fine.
What is the answer? Keep the older version?

Hi Vic,
Do you by chance have a link to your site so we can see what's up? There shouldn't be any difference as to the Milonic showing up between the two versions, so there might be something else going on. If I had the site, I could download and test what's happening with the new version.
Off hand, the one thing that comes to mind is = were you logged in when you downloaded the menu and got the menu for your site?? If you weren't logged in you got an unlicensed version and that would cause the link to show.

The evaluation menu is the one that I downloaded. Where is the link to download the update version 5.723. I was all over the site. I even went to the beginners section and Ruth has a link for the menu but it is to the evaluation copy only.

Hi Vic,
The link will always give you the evalution unless you are logged in with your registered log in on the main site. Not your forum login, the one you registered when you got the menu originally.

Here are some links to pages that are not displaying the menu at all.

http://www.fbclongwood.org/Revised%20Ch ... _45-65.htm

It's driving me nuts why some pages are not showing the menu when they were all displaying the menu before I updated the version with the demo instead of the actual menu.
I logged into the Milonic website but darn if I can't find the updated version link. It keeps giving me the sample menu not the version update link.

Hi Victor,
I don't know if you have a licensed version or if you intend to use and unlicensed free version on that domain. If you use an unlicensed version because it's a non-profit site, then the links back to milonic have to be very specific (the requirement changed around v5.711). You may need to change your links to milonic.com. Please refer to this topic.
Cheers,
Kevin

I have the version 5.723 which is the latest and uploaded the necessary new files to the server. I have changed all my pages to reflect the specific wording link back to Milonic.
I am using an unlicensed version with links back to Milonic.
Some of my pages still will not display the menu. I even deleted one of my pages and reconstructed it and it still won't show.

Hi Vic,
In your menu data file in the submenu Virtual Tour you are missing the closing } at the end of that submenu. That's causing the menu to not display.

Thanks Ruth
All is corrected now.
Every page is displaying the nav menu as I want it to.
Idon't know why FireFox browser won't display my applets or midi music.
BTW, I added midi music to my virtual room tour. Take a look using IE browser.

Hi Vic,
I think you need a plugin and to do some set up for that. Check on their forums for help. And I think there's some kind of 'faq' type tutorial or something for doing those plugins

Keep in mind that bgsound is IE only. Also, it must reside inside the head tag. You have it in the body.
Using browser-specific tags is really a bad idea - you're leaving the rest of the world out of your creation. Folks who use oher browsers (there are more of them every day) and find they can't see or hear something just for that reason have a tendency to get touchy. As for me, I go way past 'touchy'.
Firefox says it can't find pmvr.class. As Ruth mentioned, you might want to check their plugins and/or extensions.
In Safari/Mac the menu drops behind the picture. Safari is Mozilla-based, so try adding the following to the top of your _data file...
Code:
fixMozillaZIndex=true;

John is right. I don't know what he means by putting it in the head of the document, I use it in the body section, but maybe that's because I actually let the player be visible and controlled by the visitor so they can use the 'dang, how do I stop that stupid music' button

Ruth:
What is the html code for displaying the player so visitors can turn it off?

Hi Vic,
Code:
<embed src="midi file link goes here" width=144 height=25 autostart=true loop=true controls=smallconsole>
<noembed><p><a href="midi file link">Click to hear the song.</a></p></noembed>
Supposedly the noembed tag is to allow those whose browser doesn't read embed to be able to click and get the sound. As far as I know you can leave out the height and width and it will just display the small version of the player.
<noembed><p><a href="midi file link">Click to hear the song.</a></p></noembed>
Hope that helps

I was talking about the bgsound tag he's using (as I wrote!), not the embed.

Ruth:
I inserted the code for my midi file on the index page. It was working and now it does not in IE 6.0 and Firefox 1.0.4.
My other midi files are playing in 6 of my virtural Tour Rooms.
Example: http://www.fbclongwood.org/Revised%20Ch ... chapel.htm
I took two snapshots of the player on the index page but I don't know how to submit them to you to see. I have them on my desktop in jpg format.

Check the path. When I try to get the midi from that directory it says page not found.

Ruth:
It is there on the server. I changed the path to reflect the directory/folder"..midi_music/LetsJustPraisTheLord.midi"
And it still will not play or display the quicktime player.
What I can't understand is that it was playing on the server before.
Could it be something was turned off at the server?

I am about to the change all the files under Revised Church Website to the root directory folder of the website which will now be a new look for our website.

I can only say that any combination of paths I tried to get the mid say page not found. The first I tried is what Netscape gives as the path to the midi
Code:
http://fbclongwood.org/midi_music/letsJustPraiseTheLord.mid
http://fbclongwood.org/Revised%20Church%20Website/midi_music/letsJustPraiseTheLord.mid
I even tried to see if somehow the spelling was wrong, i.e. lets was capitalized or The was small.
http://fbclongwood.org/Revised%20Church%20Website/midi_music/letsJustPraiseTheLord.mid
I can only suggest that you try the full path instead of using the ../ stuff and see what happens, because I couldn't find it anyplace.

I can't find it, either. Did you upload it as binary and not text?
Just another mention that <bgsound...> is allowed only in the <head>. You have it inside a table in the body.

Just a couple of quick comments... Looks (Sounds?) to me like it's now playing on your index page.
Have you considered trying autostart="true" in your <embed> tags, to make sure that the playback starts automatically?
You might also try setting hidden="true" in the <embed> tag, so that the embedded player does not appear on the page.
Finally, I'm not sure that loop="infinite" is correct syntax in an <embed> tag. I think you want loop="true" instead.
Cheers,
Kevin
