How do I dynamically build menu using PHP without SQL?

Hi all,
I'm currently evaluating this excellent menu, and have a few newbie questions. I have searched the forums for answers, but didn't find a satisfactory one, hence my post...
- How would I populate the menu using PHP on the fly? Is it even possible yet? I read a post saying it was beeing worked on? Thing is, sql is not an option, or any other DB, because of space limitations on the serverside. The system that will run the menu is an embedded webserver with very little space to work with.
- Can someone please point to a simple example of the above approach?
At the moment, the only way I can get the menu to show, is by using menu_data.js ... And I'm using version 5.719.
Thanks,
Pontus
