"page" color confusion?

I am using 'pagecolor' and 'pagebgcolor' to change the color of the current page in the menu. However, apparently this causes confusion when the current page is the directory default, i.e. "directory/". In menu_data.js I changed the URL from "directory/index.html" to just "directory/", which does then apply the styles to the index page. Regardless, the menu still displays incorrectly.

The first two fields of my menu are submenus. When the current page is "/", the third field (the first regular link, to "somethingelse.html") has the 'pagecolor' and 'pagebgcolor' colors applied. This is obviously wrong.
