flashing cursor

Hi all

I am trying to evaluate DHTML menus for my webmaster, prior to a site re-design.

I've been aware of the Milonic menu for a while, and like it a lot. I have downloaded several demos, and they work well. However, on my machine I notice a strange problem.

If using the Centre Aligned Table configuration, my mouse cursor flashes wherever on the page it is placed (IE6/XP). This does not happen with other milonic examples, and does not happen when I use the same machine to access the same example on the Milonic site (http://www.milonic.com/menusample9.php). It doesn't happen either if I access my example from another machine (IE5).

My boss will never accept that if he sees it! Any ideas on why it happens and how to prevent it?

Cheers, Mike

Got a URL? Maybe one of us will see the problem as well.

Sorry - yes, good point! I've made it visible at:
http://internt.nhm.ac.uk/jdsml/miks/milonic9/menu.htm

This is the download straight off the site - I've done nothing at all to it. l
should probably add that on my machine the cursor appears to flash every half second. Because of that I suspected it was something to do with the _menuOpenDelay variable but changing that didn't affect it.

Thanks, Mike

Looking at the page you posted with XP Pro/IE6. My cursor is rock-solid. No flashing or anything.

Something about that machine, or the browser settings, is amiss, but I'm not able to tell you what.

Fair enough. My colleague's ie6/xp machine doesn't do it either.

What I think is odd though, is that using my machine to view the same demo on the Milonic site does NOT give the same effect. If anyone can think of a setting that might behave like that...?

thanks and cheerio, Mike

I believe it's the "Cause trouble with Mike's boss" setting under the Tools menu. Specific to Windoze, of course - no problem on Mac/Safari...

[Sorry - bad day already. Maybe one of the other folks will have an idea.]

 Aha! - the old have-a-go-at-windows routine - you Mac people just can't resist it, can you?!

Wel, it seems nobody can reproduce my issue, and I can't make it happen on another machine, so intrigued as I am, I guess it can't be much of a prob - I'll just make sure I demo it appropriately!

Cheers for your help, Mike

Hi Mike,

I have a hunch: In the one that flashes, does the first menu item contain the text "Home" or "MILONIC"?

It's not flashing for me either. I have IE 5.01, '98 and I had the same thought as Kevin, because the menu has the Milonic Link and that flashes I believe, so maybe that's what's doing it. Wonder if you put the reference with the html link if it will stop?
