problem running menus with internal nw url

Hi,

I've just purchased a license and copied over the menu scripts to my server (http://www.recoursedesign.com/menu.htm) which in theory will work from the outside world (please correct me if I'm wrong), but as I have to address my server on the internal network via an IP address (due to my adsl router), I have a feeling that the menu is being addressed incorrectly and failing any address-validations.

I actually purchased two licenses, and set the 2nd one (temporarily hopefully) to http://192.168.1.11 which is the internal IP, and copied over the script files for that address, but still to no avail...

Is there a way to generate some scripts for me that handle both my outside URL (http://www.recoursedesign.com) and internal URL (192.168.1.11)?

I don't see the menu, I should see milonic_src.js somewhere.
Are you sure you are using Milonic menu?

It should work if I could find it.

Hi maz,

I just tested by using a dial up, and sure enough the menu is working from outside my intranet, at present, the only page that contains the menu is:

http://www.recoursedesign.com/menu.htm


It is definietly there, and working from outside, I just need to have it working from inside the intranet now.

I can see your menu on the 'outside' URL. The 'inside' looks like a Linksys IP, and, as you know, there's no way we're going to be able to get a look at what you've got in there. I don't know of any restrictions in using an IP vs. a domain name, so if you've done the setup the same way as the working one it should be there. Keep a close eye on your pathing setups, as that's where a lot of folks go wrong.

Thanks for all your help, I'm not sure what I changed, but it has started working now...

Would it be possible to clear my 2nd license (the IP one) so I can set it up for my client please? Which brings on another question I'm afraid...

My current client is a software distribution company, which has various packages for sale, all from different companies, it is split over 3 servers, two secure and one public - from reading your documentation, and FAQ, I can see this sits in your gray area as it is a) (kind of) representing other companies (although not directly) and b) housed on 3 URL'd Servers. How do we sit for licensing? (their URL is http://www.binaryresearch.net if it helps)

The Pro license, which I'm assuming is what you have, is good for one domain, and in most cases, sub-domains of the licensed domain. From what you describe that does not appear to be the case with your client. They will need a license for each separate domain that displays the menu. Further, they canot distribute the menu with their products under a Pro license, nor can they call the menu from a domain other than the one for which it is licensed. There are other license options available that might better fit their situation.
