Menu and <select>

Hi,

there's a great feature in milonic menu (well not just one, but this one interests me) : it displays over html <select> elements in IE. i've been struggling some time to do this with a floating <div>, but no way (all resources i could find stated it was a IE limitation - <select> are unaffected by z-index).
would you mind explaining me how you managed this?
