Bug with images in Safari?

We have updated all our menus to version 5, release 10. Great improvements.
What we are seeing in Safari with menus using images is one extra pixel width in EACH menu item that results in the full width of the menu being rendered wider than it should be. This menu displays properly in all other browsers and platforms we have tested. An example can be viewed at:

Viewed with Safari you can see that the menu extends too far to the right, and there is a 1 pixel gap between each image. Just to confirm that it wasn't something about these particular images, I built a new test page. The menu scripts are the same as the above link.

The same thing happens. Viewed with Safari, the images are spaced apart by what appears to be 1 pixel padding on the right side of the menu item.
BTW, in these menu scipts we have used the itemwidth and itemheight attributes, which do not seem to have any effect on the width of the menu item. As a test, we tried changing itemwidth and itemheight to imagewidth and imageheight, which have disasterous results when viewed with ANY brower. I believe I have read in other posts that imagewidth and imageheight have not yet been implemented. That test is at:

Interestingly, however, when viewed in Safari, you can still see the 1 pixel padding between the menu item images.
Any ideas?
