Browser Compatibility

I'm looking at purchasing one, possibly two licenses for the menu system and was looking for a key piece of information prior to making the purchase which I have been unable to find.

Do you have a list of tested browsers and versions that are compatible?

As far as I am aware, it works on all browsers. You sometimes do get minor glitches, but it is generally to do with the way the user has coded their page.

The good thing is there are a lot of good people on here using different browsers who will be happy to check your work and point out any errors.

Well there are some browsers out there that don't play nice with the menu, but mostly the mainstream browsers all work with it. For a complete list, the readme included with the download (request a freelicense at http://www.milonic.com/freelicense.php ) list them. But just in case, heres the list.

The menu is written in JavaScript and will support the following web browsers:

* Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+ on all Microsoft Windows Systems
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5+ on Macs running OS9 or OS X
* Netscape 4.03+ on Windows, Linux, and Apple Macs running OS9 OS X
* Netscape 6.0+ on Windows, Linux, and Apple Macs running OS9 or OS X
* Mozilla 0.7+ on Windows, Linux, and Apple Macs running OS9 or OS X
* Safari on Apple Macs running OS X
* Konquerer on Unix, KDE Systems
* Opera 5.1+ on Windows, Linux, and Apple Macs running OS9 or OS X.

Other browsers may support the Milonic DHTML Menu providing JavaScript 1.3 is
supported and is fully compatible with ECMA-262.

And it seems to work alright on Opera 7.2 version..unless that's including in some of those mozilla or whatevers...

Yeah by saying 5.1+ pretty much means anything from 5.1+ on. But funny thing is, there were some quirks with opera 7.1, status text I can think of off the top of my head, that now have been fixed in 7.2. So I guess you're never really guaranteed it'll work all the time, ahh, the life of designing for quirky picky computers.

I think the most important thing is...does the MENU itself work, meaning does it come up and do all the submenus and links work? If that works then...yes it's frustrating that certain things might not work on certain browsers but if the menu shows and the links work on most, even the older ones, that's a HUGE plus

Hey Andy,
I am using Red Hat at school at the moment, and I took a look at the menu using Konquerer. Its kinda sketchy as the alignment on the end of the menu is funny, the last item's text extends past the edge of the colored area. And submenu's work, but it takes a couple mouseovers or clicking. I am using Konquerer 3.1-15 Red Hat (Using KDE 3.1-12 Red Hat).

Also, I have another browser to add to your list of supported. I am currently viewing the menu on Galeon 1.2.7 and it works AWESOME. Galeon is a GNOME browser that is based on Mozilla. But its another browser and your new menu renders quite nicely on it, so I would add it!
