Use my own images as bg for main menu

Hello all. I've literally just purchased a license agreement so am extremely new to the Milonic menu code so please forgive me if I come across somewhat naive
I have to add a DHTML dropdown menu in a bit of a rush and was wondering if I am able to use my own images or an invisible gif in the main menu. Basically the designer has created the nav buttons from which the drop-downs will activate, so i want to be able to use these and don't want a set backround colour for either state of the main menu cells.
I have experimented by setting the offbgcolor and onbgcolor to transparent but obviously this also affects the off and on states of the drop-down items for which i do want to set a background colour???
Any help would be gratefully appreciated :)

Are you asking if you can use only the designer graphics as the main menu items, and have the subs drop from those? If so, the answer is yes. See http://westcgi.west.asu.edu/sai/ as an example of exactly that.

Duplicate Mainmenu styles and give it another name for the submenus and change the style name accordingly for submenu styles.

You can also change the color of an item. Check the correct names in your text files, I think bgimage still goes in the style above menu items.

You will find more posts on this by searching the forum.
