Using Menu AOL

Poster: SkyFlyer

Are there any tricks or tips to get the menu to work in AOL?
Or does it not work? I don't have AOL, but my friend emailed me and said the graphics and text are fine, but no menu.
Any thoughts? No sure what to do.
Thanks ...

I put a page up at aol, it seems to work fine. The only working link is to milonic, I didn't bother with any others since this is just a test page.

Perhaps you could give a link to the page that doesn't seem to be working, it's hard to tell the problem without being able to see the page.

Sorry, I meant to put a link in.
This is pretty much a rough draft of a site I am putting together.
Much to be done yet.
It works fine in IE and Nav for me, but I had a friend said it didn't work in AOL.
I'll just have to take her word for it, as I don't do AOL.
If you need to see source, let me know. I don't know how to unload the source in the browser.

I am going to probably redo it in Menu 5, but there is a learning curve, and with no documentation, I am still trying make some sence of Menu 3!
It will all come around.

Thanks

I put your pages up at my aol site.

It seems to work fine, though I must tell you, controling the size of the browser window is not appreciated by many. For example, your page went beyond my monitor screen size...... I'd suggest you didn't do that, let the people visiting decide what size they want. :)

Thanks for checking it out.
Are you saying the menu works fine?
My friend said she wasn't even getting the menu.
I'll check with her again.
Thanks for the tip on the size.
Not sure what I'll do about that. I'll chip it down in size. Pehaps 640 instead of 800.
Thanks again.

Yes, it works. I even went to your page through aol and it works, it even ends up overriding the control you have in for the function of window size since aol does it's own window control. I'd have her try it again, but I have aol4.0 and am not upgrading until absolutely necessary. Maybe the different ones cause different problems. Or perhaps it's some setting on her browser, something to do with security or something. I don't know. As to the window size control, it's up to you, but it tends to frustrate people if it changes their browser window size, they tend to have it set at a size for a reason.

I have to second Ruth on that one. Controlling window size should be frowned upon unless absolutely necessary. When I browse, I definetly have a system to my chaos of open browser windows, and someone messing with it upsets me. Unless its absolutely necessary, as in your site was some sort of interface to some kind of control, then go ahead. But otherwise, try and refrain from it. Its good webmaster etiquette. ;)

I have already removed the sizing of the window.
Thanks for the reminder.
Now, if I could just figure out what some of the parameters fo Menu 5 mean ....
I like Menu 5 over 3 (even if I can't do much yet).
It will happen. Patience is the name of the game!
Thanks again ...

Yes, I will be going to 5 at some point, but for a real beginning novice v3 is hard enough. When I get it up and working like i want, then I'll play with 5.

You will like it.
I'm practicing my Menu 3 in Menu 5.
I like it better.
I just wish I knew more about the parameter and values.
Please, Milonic, when you can, post the parameter help list.
I'm going to end this AOL thread for now.
I'll probably start another thread with more specific questions and issues with Menu 5.
Thanks for your help Ruth (and others)!

As a web developer for over 12 years, I gotta tell ya - don't mess with the users' windows :!: :x Your site should be flexible enough to handle most anything that comes your way. Personally, and I'm sure I'm not alone, any site that changes my window size and/or placement gets left in the dust immediately. Doesn't matter what it is - they just lost a visitor, and in many cases a customer as well.

FWIW...
