High CPU Usage IE 5.5

We currently use the DHTML menu Version 3.5.15 on our intranet Sharepoint portal. Approximately 95% of our 30000 intranet user's are using IE 5.5 on NT 4 workstations, and are finding that the CPU usage is extremely high, some as high as 90%, but in general around 30%. Other user's using IE 6 SP1 on XP Professional find that they don't have this problem with CPU usage being negligable. Is this a known issue, and if so, is there any fix you can recommend. We have found that upgrading the NT 4 workstations to IE 6 SP1 solves the problem, unfortunately upgrading everyone to IE 6 SP1 is out of the question at the moment, hence any fix or solution that you can provide would be much appreciated.

I would suggest upgrading your menu system to V5. My V3 menu was sluggish on our six hundred P2 NT4 systems at our school, but runs much better with V5.
