Forcing the submenu image to appear w/o showmenu

On my main menu, I am not using showmenu to trigger the submenus. Instead, I am using a url=javascript entry to trigger a custom showMenu function. The disadvantage to this is that the submenu image does not appear on the menu item. I already have another image included with the text of the menu item (image aligned left).

Is there some way to force the submenu image to appear without the normal showmenu entry for the menu item? (I tried both "showmenu;" and "showmenu=null" but no luck.)

I don't understand what you are doing, but I know a little about images, if you are using overimage it must be in menu item, when I work with bgimage I have to use "transparent" bgcolor.
This might help, I don't know.
