Editing the Menu.js file in Microsoft FrontPage

Hi, I work for the Rutgers University Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern Experience. We have a website that has a mmenu.js file and a menu_array.js file, I'm trying to open these files within Microsoft FrontPage to fix some of the broken links within the menu. When I try to open either of the two files I get an error message on both either "document is undefined" or "Object was expected". Can anyone help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

My first thought has to be stay away from FrontPage Personal opinion, not that of Milonic. It has a habit of doing very nasty things to your code behind your back, and we have a number of folks here on the Forum who have had the experience.

As for the .js files, they are just straight text, so any plain text editor will work (not Word, etc., but even something like Notepad will do).

Addendum: Dave is right - Dreamweaver MX is really the only editor to use for just about anything - text, ColdFusion, ASP, HTML, XHTML, XML, etc., etc.

Not sure, since I dont use frontpage, but I would recommend not using Frontpage to edit it. I have known Frontpage to change things on me without knowing, I hate programs that mess around and touch things they're not supposed to. For now, try using notepad or something like that, you can still edit your js files just fine. But my editor of choice is dreamweaver.

I don't think Frontpage has the capabilities to execute the code while it is still being edited.

Notepad is your best bet but there are more advanced text editors around. I've heard good things said about Textpad http://www.textpad.com
