New info old question-links from a database

I sent a message earlier saying that I'm having problems passing variables from the menu. It works ok with application variables and client (global) variables. It doesn't work with url (local) variables. Is that just the way it is or am I missing something?? When I moved the local variable to an application variable page (hard coded an example) it passed just fine.
