I would like to change the menu bar i have now(basicly just links) to a dhtml menu but i have been trying to figure out how to do it for a few days and just cant do it. I have tried a few different menus from a few different sites. It is just beyond my capabilities.
My site is kingofthemountain4x4.com
I would like some suggestions and some help if possable on how to make the switch.
Thanks in advance

Just had a look at your site. First thing is I couldn't get it to load in my Netscape 4.76 browser (one of these days I'll upgrade to 6.x and it probably will load). So I brought it up in IE. The disadvantage for me is that IE doesn't allow me to grab a frame and look at the html code like Netscape does. When I use IE's edit in Netscape menu option it opens the right kind of editing window but doesn't load it in.

So I couldn't experiment with it. You have a side frame. If you want to keep the frame, you need to download the frames version and use the frames_side_array.js file for the side frame and frames_body_array.js for the main frame display of the menu hierarchy. It helps at least for experimental purposes if all files are in the same directory (no subdirectories).

In your sideframe html code you paste the following 2 lines immediately after <body>
<script language=JavaScript src="frames_side_array.js" type=text/javascript></script>
<script language=JavaScript src="mmenu.js" type=text/javascript></script>

... and in your main frame code the same, substituting src="frames_body_array.js" for the side array js file above.

All of the above assumes you want menu tiers to activate across the sideframe. OTOH, maybe you wish to give up the frame design. I use a top frame so I am in a good position to advise on frames etc. One of the main reasons Andy et al advise a non-frame format is that all your html files must have the above code. But this is not possible for most outside linking. I don't do much external linking so for me the BACK button accomplishes what little I need.

Even if I had been able to see the html code on your two frames, I would still have had to have an idea of what menu hierarchy you have in mind, i.e. what extends sideways from what. If you have downloaded the frames version and do just the above suggestons, it would overlay Milonics menu on your page. The positionings would be off perhaps and you would have to tinker with the settings. By changing the wording, color, etc. of milonics, you gradually get yours to come up. Any edits in your js file can be observed almost instanteously in your website window by reloading the appropriate frame.

I'm still in learning mode myself and these are great menus. Hang in there and keep asking for help.

I'm just an amateur experimenter myself. Guys like us think we have to know a ton of stuff to get a sophisticated result. But that's the beauty of Andy's menus. He does all the work and we cut and paste and tweak, and voila.

If you go one step at a time and see what results you get and check back in here when you get hung up, tha't the way I got it to work.

Start by downloading the frames version. It takes about a minute. Have an experimental subdirectory on your hard drive from which you can bring up your website and where you can tinker forever withut having to worry what gets changed (because you can always start over again). Unzip the download to that subdirectory.

Draw a scheme of your menu headings and submenus that you would like to see as the finished product. Email them to me and I'll bring you to the next step.

Don't try to accomplish too much too soon.

Hi guys

Good news - the menubuilder will be released very soon.

This should help solve some problems as it will generate your menus for you.
