3.4: Submenus appear in wrong position and stick

I have just copied the main 3.4 menu file over my previous version (3.3.19) and noted that the arrows pointing to submenus sometimes no longer display. Furthermore:
If I place the cursor on the first entry of the main horizontal menu and place the cursor of the last entry of the submenu, the connecting third-level menu does not appear even though the arrow is showing.
If I place the cursor on the second entry of the main horizontal menu, the submenu appears on top of the main menu and the third-level menus appear just slightly below the main menu instead of slightly right and below the previous level.
When these problems happen, placing the cursor elsewhere on the screen does not cause the submenus to disappear; they rather stick, and the only solution is to reload the page.
I am using IE 6.0.2600.000 on Win98SE. When I replace the new file with the old one, everything comes back to normal.
