Help! Surfers needed

Please help us verify 2 problems which are browser/connection speed dependent. Both tests will only take about 30 seconds. I have limited browsers and only 1 connection type so I can not reproduce some of the problems that visitors have reported on my site. The site is http://www.thebytefactory.com and the major problem is a serious error message on page open where the menu fails to load. That has been reported mostly with IE5.0 or maybe over slow connections. The other problem is subtle but yields the menu unusable without some determination. When the page opens and the menu appears, hover over Products, a submenu will appear. Now carefully move to About Shopping and hover there. Does the submenu disappear? We appreciate your help! Good thinking Gary
I've upgraded this message to Sticky status till we fix this problem.
Guys - This issue is very important to the us. I'm on ADSL and downgrading is proving difficult. The only way I have at the moment is using the laptop but that's running IE6.0
So if any of you who have IE5.0 can you please please visit the site and give us your feedback
Many Thanks
Andy

Thought I might help you guys out here.
I've got cable and I'm from Australia.
On my main machine (I.E. 6 + SP1) the menu works fine.
On my laptop I.E. 5 on the same connection I se the menu fine but I get the dissapearing menu problem.
It's not a connection issues as I am using the same gateway machine - definately an I.E. 5 issue.
Hope you guys work it out.
Good Luck.

I visited your site using Opera 6.05 and nothing seemed to work. I changed my settings so that my browser said it was identity was Mozilla 5.0 and not much changed. I also changed to MSIE 5.0 and go no pop up menus. I am running on a direct cable interface.

I viewed the source code and the <Script> tags with source or links to source are all between the <HEAD> </HEAD> tags. I can confirm that this <U>absolutely</U> will NOT work with Mozilla 1.1 which I just downloaded yesterday. However I don't know about any earlier Geko based browsers like NS 6.0 It works with NS 4.61
Here's what I'v found. The <SCRIPT> tags with source or links to source must be placed after the <BODY> tag in order to work with Mozilla 1.1 and this doesn't <I>seem</I> to impact IE 6.0.2 or NS 4.61

Hi,
I'am using IE Microsoft (R) VM for Java, 5.0 Release 5.0.0.3234
My connection is bad 45,4 kBit/s
Everything seems to be okay but sometimes I will try to explain it, the menue disapears. This is not only on Product so, in all other menus it's the same. I think it is not a problem with the Browser, but a user failure.
1. Your click e.g to Download
2. Submenu appears and you click to e.g to CodeLoader
3. As long as you wait for coming up the CodeLoader page you go to Services
4. You will see, that the Submenu of Services don't appear.
Then you must only click elsewhere on the page and then to the menu again and the submenu is appearing well. I think it is a phenomenon of the fading.
Possible solution might be:
- To change the 13. parameter of function addmenu or
- it is is an effect from the fading in the submenu (Fade(duration=0.2);Shadow(color=777777, Direction=135, Strength=5)",)
Hope this helps

Hi,
I tried the site using IE 5.00.2614.3500, on a Windows 98SE machine, through a high-speed (cable) internet connection. I got the disappearing menu effect on all second-level menu items, but only if I moved to an item quickly. For example, if I open the Products menu, then quickly move the pointer to Catalog and stop, the Products menu disappears after a second or so. But if I slowly move the pointer to Catalog, at a rate that takes me past the first menu item fast enough for the menu not to disappear, then the Products menu remains on screen. Hope that made sense! Third-level menus do not seem to disappear at all, but maybe that's because I can't get to them fast enough.
Hope that helps,
Kevin

I would like to thank everyone who has responded so far. It looks like the disappearing menu is by far the most consistant problem on the site. I have reported that problem to Andy.
We still need all the feedback we can get on the menu loading problem. A quick click will do it http://www.thebytefactory.com When the menu fails to load, it is very noticeable. There will be nothing but a blank black bar at the top of the page.
Works fine on IE5.2 for Mac
